holiday decor

I realize the holiday season is past us but I was having such a great time off that I didn’t post any photos of what my home looked like.  Take a look at Christmas 2016: I kitted out my front porch with a small sleigh that included burlap and pinecones. I picked up the white wooden star at All Through the House in Okotoks.  I suspended lights over my window seat this year and they gave off a lovely glow. A small taste of my ongoing collection of vintage glass ornaments. One of my fave ornaments.  A simple wooden bowl filled with bells and a mini-evergreen dress up a console table. I love these little stars made of bark A trio of tiny snowscapes Little bottle brush trees dress up a shelf. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look.  I promise to post the 2017 holiday decor photos in...

We enjoyed a lovely white Christmas here in Calgary and I thought I’d share some photos of how I decorated my home for the holidays. I tried to create a simple holiday table with crackers, silver chargers and homemade name cards for each guest The centrepiece was a set of antlers I had spray painted blue, candles and crystals from an old chandelier My Christmas tree holds my collection of glass ornaments A reminder of my trip to Paris years ago A bowl of vintage glass ornaments A mini-spruce in a maple syrup can and an industrial light cage filled with bright, shiny baubles Even my desk gets the holiday treatment with a wreath on my chair and a wintery fern wrapped in burlap A beaded ornament and mini-tree dress up a shelf I picked up this garland years ago and love how they dress up my chairs circled into a wreath This silver tray sparkles when filled with bells and chandelier crystals A little pewter mug holds glittered stars A picnic basket full of mercury glass ornaments A little holiday...

I took this photo while I was doing some Spring cleaning.  I’ve had my Reverie sofa for a couple of years now and still love it.  The pale grey fabric keeps the room feeling light and pairs well with my Dwell for Robert Allen cushions and my bright yellow, big loop blanket.  The metal white lamp was a HomeSense find and brightens up a dark corner.  I’m still working on my gallery wall but I like how all of the different pieces are becoming a...

Here is a little vignette I’ve put together on my dresser.   I picked up the paper goose decoy at Blue Jar Antique Mall.  I love how detailed the printed feathers are and how the head can pivot up or down.  The wire orb was a decorative item I picked up at West Elm ages ago.  The wooden hat block (used to shape hats) is a beautiful piece I got at Cozy Cottage Interiors in Okotoks.   The lovely wood grain just pulled me in and I had to have it.  The top has a great shape and could be used like a little bowl for change or...

Here is a little corner of my family room with one of my favourite chairs, the STRANDMON from Ikea.  It is incredibly comfortable and perfect for curling up in with a book. I picked up the lamp years ago from Urban Barn.  I keep thinking about changing the shade but haven’t found anything that suits it better than a plain, white drum. The painting is a great piece I picked up from a gallery in Toronto.  The title is Wintry Road and the artist is Elisabeth Russ.  I bought it because it reminded me of my uncle’s farm in the winter. Under the console is a vintage, canvas basket that I found from Love the Design.  It’s filled with old milk bottles that I picked up at various thrift stores.  It’s little details like this that bring personality and interest to a...

Sometimes your design plans don’t always go the way you want them to.  When I moved into my home, I had decided to have this loveseat placed upstairs in my bedroom.  Unfortunately, my staircase is just not wide enough so the movers placed it here until I figured out what to do with it. What I did was leave it and instead created a little reading nook in my eat-in kitchen. My metal side table from Phil’z is a perfect companion and a place to add little decorative items.  The pillows are from Indigo and the artwork are various pieces I’ve collected through the years. It’s a lovely spot for guests to sit when I’m cooking or a quiet spot to enjoy the morning...
